We've always been intrigued by mid-century modern architecture and have enjoyed exploring the homes in Krisana Park and Arapahoe Acres. As luck would have it, we were able to purchase a mid-century home in Krisana Park (Denver). This home is part of an enclave of 175 mid-century moderns inspired by the Eichler style of homes in California. The neighborhood was developed by H.B. Wolff from 1954-1957, supposedly on an alfafa field.
- Creating a comfortable modern Scandinavian feel, while staying true to original intent of the architecture
- Increasing square footage and adding storage while retaining the single level living
- Opening kitchen/living area
- Improving visual transparency and physical access to front and back yards
- Maximizing outdoor patio space
- Updating all the systems
- Improving air and overall comfort
In terms of sustainable measures and energy efficient goals we did the following:
- Reused the existing structure and roof system
- Kept the original flooring
- Used conventional but high efficiency heating & cooling system
- Used White TPO roof
- Retained deep overhangs and new west facing patio roof to minimize heat gain
- Utilized products from green companies Hansgrohe Plumbing Fixtures, Porcelanosa Tile, Mosa Tile, Neolith countertops
- LED lighting for electrical energy savings
- Hurd Windows & Doors
- Toto toilets for lower water usage
